NETS in Ancient Rome

Using Final Cut Pro to make videos and youtube to upload a quick film scene is a great way to engage students to creativity and incorporates NETS into a lesson. For example, I am doing a lessson on the fall of the Roman Republic. I want the studnets in groups of four, to decide to rollplay potential scenes from Casaer crossing the Rubicon and returning to Rome. Students can then watch themselves and compare their pieces with each other in front of the class.

How I will use technology to teach at Bloom's higher order thinking

"Interactive recreation in a virtual setting" That sounds like a tongue twister, but its a neat concept. For instance watching Gladiatior is a great way to feel like you are in ancient Rome, but it would be another to actually have a role playing experience and videotape students acting a day in the life of a Roman. We could edit through Premier or Final Cut Pro online, then analyse as a class and compare it to a primary source documentation on Roman life.

Technology reshapes America's classrooms

I like the idea of a paperless society, and so do the trees. This is not a new concept, the virtual classroom is as old as idea as the internet its self. In fact isn't this what Al Gore has claimed to invented when he was in school, a way for students to share in ideas from all over the world. A noble approach to say the least, but what is the real cost for schools who buy into the global classroom? with the rapid changing of technology from year to year, the school risks spending and awful lot of money for training and technology that may need replacing in two to three years. AS you can tell from my stance, Im not an early adopter of new technology, in fact I really don't even like my iphone that much (gasp!), but when it comes to my classroom I woud want every advantage that the district would allow for my students. Laptops, large digital projector and an internet access are what I would call essential tools for the HS classroom these days.

Welcome to the Blogisphere

I never thought I would have one of these new fangled innovations, but I guess I'm not the dinosaur I thought I was going to turn out to be.
